Whatever/Whenever

My love for W Hotels started in Taiwan 5 years ago. Their hotel motto of “Whatever/Whenever” was an attractive invitation to the motley crew of great pals we had accumulated over the 7 years we lived in Hsinchu City, Taiwan. As it went, usually one of us would suggest a day trip, so we would pick a spot in Taipei for a lovely breakfast, then shortly after (yes, before noon!), we’d take up our spots on the W Taipei Hotel rooftop bar, WET bar. We would sit poolside for the day sipping some of the best mojitos ever made, watching the many attractive visitors meandering around the deck, and share a day of giggles, food, cocktails and conversation. The day would pass and an evening would arrive. Here’s what it looked like:

Here in Doha, the poolside option is not as inviting to me, but the service, indoor atmosphere, and especially the food at W Hotel Doha is divine. I love having after work drinks with friends at the Spice Market happy hour, or heading downstairs for a glass of vino in La Spiga, by Paper Moon and listening to some jazz. Also, Brunch at Spice Market is one of the “must-do” brunches in Doha…and is definitely in MY top 3 choices for brunch in Doha. With an expansive array of Asian cuisine, it’s the best place in town for a feast of sushi, Peking Duck, Thai curry, or steamed dumplings…and don’t get me started on the desserts! Often you can chat with the friendly W pastry chefs admiring their work, while (actually) making sure it’s absolutely perfect. It’s nothing but the best for the W.  The Market by Jean George, La Spiga, and/or Spice Market are places you really should try when living in Doha, or just stopping by for a vacation or business trip. The W Cafe on the main floor serves a great cup of coffee alongside beautiful pastries, or a light morning breakfast.

Recently, during a week of staycationing, I had the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely kid-free lunch with a couple of good friends at Spice Market. We went for the bento box business lunch. It was excellent eats, sushi was perfect, drinks spectacular, service was top-notch and the bento box (95RQ) and sushi express (140QR) prices were very, very reasonable. I work full-time, so often miss out on these wonderful daytime dining opportunities. I was very glad to have had the chance to partake in this daytime luxury. Here is what it looked like:
